Degree Details

Earn a Master of Arts in Teaching and Teacher Education - Teachers in Industry Emphasis degree through our unique and affordable MA program!  Our program is tailored to support teachers -- our courses are offered in the evenings and during the summer, with the option to offset the cost of tuition with your summer industry pay.  You can estimate tuition with this tool: University of Arizona Tuition Calculator

Course Information

The following courses are offered within the Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) department of the College of Education, and are required for the Master's Degree Option within Teachers in Industry:

Summer fall Spring

TLS 574 - Connecting Workplace Practices and Classroom Issues (3 units)

TLS 572 - Problems of Practice in STEM Classrooms (3 units) TLS 519 - Learning in Science and Mathematics (3 units)
TLS 562 - Groupwork for Diverse Classrooms (3 units) TLS 570 - Introduction to Research in Education (3 units) TLS 541 - Equity and Social Justice in Math/Science Education (3 units)
TLS 596 - Topics in Teacher Education (3 units) TLS 597r - Action Inquiry Workshop (3 units) TLS 542 - School Mathematics and Science History, Curriculum and Reform (3 units)

33 units (27 units core courses + 6 units STEM content)

An additional 6 units will be required in a STEM content area of your choice.  These classes can be taken in other departments or institutions with the advisor's approval.

 

Eligibility 

To be considered for the Teachers in Industry Master's Program, applicants are expected to:

  • Possess at minimum a B.A. or B.S. degree
  • Have an Arizona teaching certificate
  • Be teaching STEM content (preferred) or other content with the desire to strengthen STEM teaching expertise
  • Agree to continue teaching for at least three years after completion of the program
  • Be eligible to work in the U.S. (we are unable to accept teachers on work visas)
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.0 (GRE is not needed if GPA is 3.0 or higher)
  • Complete all application materials, including a business resume

Application and Selection Process 

We begin by meeting with applicants to get a better sense of goals, skills and interests.

  1. If we identify a good fit, your business resume is sent to a hiring company.
  2. The hiring company schedules interviews with their top applicants.
  3. If an offer is made and accepted, we will contact you with final enrollment instructions.

Please note: Your selection is not finalized until you are offered and accept a summer work position.
